DMU Vehicles

Diesel multiple unit (DMU) vehicles are single units able to propel themselves without the use of a traditional diesel engine. These engines are perfect for commuter transport because they add more passenger capacity while still having the necessary pulling power. Capacity can also meet demand by adding more cars without the loss of horsepower because each DMU is self propelled.

Lakeshore Commuter Rail will use modern, environmentally friendly, quiet, and American made vehicles to move passengers along our primary route, and any extensions made in the future. By using US Railcar, we will be using products made by American workers and helping keep jobs here in the US. 

There are two models from which to choose from, a single level train (94), or double decker (188). Each vehicle is able to pull two unpowered cars with speeds from 79-to-90 mph.
